We utilize a wide array of environmentally sustainable practices in each step of our vertically integrated production process that starts with farming, continues through plant extraction, and finishes with a satisfied customer.
Our Organic, Sustainable and Environmentally-Conscious Process
Every milligram of hemp derived cannabinoids found in our products comes from plants grown from seed on our farm. Our cultivation team only uses organic and sustainable agriculture practices; including conservation tillage, companion planting, cover cropping, etc. And we are careful to never use any synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. Once the plants reach maturity, they are harvested and hung by hand to dry in our drying facility. By using only dehumidifiers and fans in our drying process, and no additional heat, we drastically decrease our operations' carbon footprint and better preserve the fragile compounds produced by the plant (which simultaneously boosts the holistic benefits).
Reducing our Carbon Footprint One Sustainable Step at a Time
After the plants have fully dried, they are moved half a mile across the farm to our state-of-the-art lab where our award winning (VA Living award) full-spectrum CBD-rich hemp extract is created. There are a wide variety of techniques that can be used to extract CBD from hemp plants, with the major differences between techniques relating to the type of solvent used. At River Organics, we use USDA certified organic sugarcane alcohol that is produced in alignment with our core value of environmental stewardship. Through our cutting-edge extraction process we are also able to separate, recover and continually reuse our organic solvent in a manner that is compliant with GMP standards. Waste not, want not, right?!
After the extracted, cannabinoid-rich oil is separated from all organic alcohol, it is used to create every one of River Organics' products. To make our products, we exhaustively source the highest quality ingredients and packaging, which are environmentally friendly and come from socially responsible vendors. We encourage all our customers to reuse, recycle or compost all River Organics’ packaging. We believe that small changes can make a big difference when it comes to preserving our planet for future generations!
