Equine Touch evolved in 1997 when founder Jock Ruddock translated his unique body work (VHT) to the equine upon the request of a client. Very soon word of Jock's success in healing horses became know and he began teaching the technique to others at seminars. It was at one of these seminars that Jock met his future wife, Ivana, who at the time was teaching at a veterinary University in the Czech Republic. With Ivana's exceptional knowledge of equine anatomy and physiology and Jock's amazing instinctive bodywork skills, they studied, refined and researched the mechanics of the horse, as well as its energy patterns and emotional armour. The routines were evolved to turn the Equine Touch into the growing and living modality that we know today, known and recognized as a premier equine care discipline worldwide from Norway to New Zealand.

Equine Touch is a non-diagnostic, non-invasive energy and muscle release discipline that works at a complete, holistic level; in other words it addresses the equine as a whole. It is not a 'therapy' although it has been proven time after time to have a strong therapeutic effect on an eclectic multitude of equine problems. The gentle non-invasive procedures re-educate the equine body to re-balance from a cellular level, encouraging the horse toward the ideal state of homeostasis, wherein any problem can be addressed on all levels.

It's a system of body work that addresses the equine as a whole without paying any particular attention to any named problem as such. It consists of a series of gentle moves performed over specific points in predetermined patterns. These gentle moves are interspersed with waiting periods to allow the equine to recognize and process the effects of these subtle procedures.

Equine Touch is compatible with recognized therapies. While having the unique ability to stand on its own as a positive corrective system at all levels, one of the most valuable assets of the Equine Touch is its total compatibility to work in a complementary and harmonious manner with other recognized equine healing modalities including allopathic, acupuncture, homeopathy, herbs, Bach flower remedies, aroma therapy oils and chiropractic. The Equine Touch is also compatible with other types of equine address such as trimming, shoeing, saddle fitting and correction, balanced riding, training, rehabilitation and nutrition, all essential elements in creating and maintaining stability and health in any horse.

How does it work?

Recent research suggests that Equine Touch works through the intelligence network of the body, the fascia. It also appears to work via the golgi receptors, the spindle cells, trigger point release mechanisms, acupuncture points, meridians, neuromuscular receptors and to directly address the lymphatic system. As it is totally holistic, Equine Touch addresses the body at all levels, physical, chemical, emotional and some would say, spiritual.
